Sweet Potatoes

Sweet Potato

Yesterday, i received 5 sweet potato Erato Orange plug plants that I repotted into 9cm pots, until June, when they can be planted outside in the dog trough.

The other day, I managed to sow some Little Gem Lettuce and some Beetroot Bolthardy in the small cells in the kitchen. No signs of germination yet, but I will keep my fingers crossed.

I have decided to use veg trug 1 to grow my salads and if I have any large pots left, I can grow one or two brassica plants, or if I move the spuds from veg trug 2 into one of the dog troughs, I can grow the cauli and cabbage in there, which would make a lot of sense.

The final dog trug can have nasturtiums growing in it, or maybe even use some of my pots to plant the Dwarf Sunflowers in, and maybe some of the Busy Lizzies and Cosmos too.

Jeff, my new gardener came over to tidy up the front and back gardens. He did a splendid job, he even installed my archway, exactly where I wanted it 🙂

Now that all the weeds have gone, I can visualise my garden a lot better now, and i definitely need a seat of some kind at the bottom of the garden, because I get so out of breath by the time I get there.

I have got rid of one of the cypress trees, because it had died, and the other one looks like it is on its last legs.

So, with them both going, I will have plenty of room for my red Gardener’s Delight plug plants x 6 and yellow Sungold plug plants x 6 tomatoes.

(I also have a few large black pots that could be used for the tomatoes, which would mean that I need loads more compost!)

I have bought netting for the peas, cucumber and beans to grow up with bamboo canes and I will also try to train the courgette to grow upwards too that will save some room.

Finally, I am still waiting for my red and yellow patio raspberries, which will be planted in the last two blue pots that I have ready for them.

So that’s the plan, and I must not forget to sow some more carrots, spring onions and salad stuff.

Oh, I almost forgot, the Rhododendron is in flower and looks beautiful, the carrots appear to have germinated, Jeff found my old strawberry plants, so you never know, I might get a good harvest this year as long as the birds don’t help themselves!!!

The pansies have come out in flower and the old Jasmine is growing again too 🙂
