Thursday Update – 15 July
The last couple of days i have taken a short walk down the garden to see how things are progressing.
Surprisingly, the first thing that I noticed was 3 little gem lettuces are growing well – in the seed cells!!
This week I will replant them in veg trug 1, along with some more seeds of lettuce, wild rocket, and radishes, maybe, even beetroot. I still have time to sow some carrot seed too.
Frustratingly, the pea pods appear not to be growing lovely big peas, but seem to be peas that don’t want to fill out, I don’t know why, but I am sure that it is just not me with this problem. (an article about slow growth from Rocket Gardens will show you that you are not on your own this season)
The Jasmine is growing steadily over the archway and the one by the fence looks so much better than it did in March, all bare and stick-like, you know what I mean, don’t you?
Anyway, further down the garden, the spuds will be ready soon to be harvested and the only courgette that I have left has the beginning’s of some fruit! Well it has a closed flower, so one can only presume
Behind it, the petunias have more flowers and looks lovely, as do the ivy geraniums have flowers beginning to open.
Also on that side of the garden, the red toms seem to be doing ok but I think that they need some fertiliser boost added to the compost and watered in.
Further down the parsnip, carrots and spring onions are growing well and still need thinning out, especially the carrots.
The Cosmos is full of greenery without flowers at the moment, but i will give them time, along with the other toms and marigolds in the hanging basket.
The orchard area continues to thrive although a couple of Acers are still twigs, so at the end of the season if they show no growth whatsoever, they will be consigned to the compost bin.
The Day Lilies in the front garden have put in a lovely orangy display and as the hedge has been trimmed and the grass cut, even the Fuchia is blooming well
Jobs that I have left to do are:
Salads – replant/seed in veg trug 1; harvest some of the spuds – the ones in veg trug 2, so that I can sow some more salad seeds there; thin out carrots; plant out the sweet potatoes; replant the courgette in the terracotta container, Plant out another pot of geraniums or maybe fill in the gaps of the ones already planted in a blue pot
