hostas

Mid October

I have lots to plant and lots to tidy up! Where shall I begin?

A little while ago i received the Iris Reticulata bulbs, but haven’t planted them yet! Secondly, not so long ago I received the Shakespeare and Winter Red onion sets, which I need to plant up.

I was originally going to plant them in veg trug 1 but I have changed my mind and decided that the Kale and cabbage plants would do better there, plus the fact that I can cover them up over the winter.

I will now put the onions in the bags that I used for the beans and peas, 1 bag for each colour.

My birthday present from John this year is Hostas and Ferns for my shady area under the bush on the right hand side, they should be able to keep the weeds down, hopefully! Basically, Fern varieties.

I already have the ‘Fire & Ice’ hosta plus, I think my other hosta is ‘Wide Brim’, so I wonder what comes in the pot luck box of Hostas?

I am looking forward to doing this side of the garden. In the spring/summer, I will add some Heucheras as well, Lime Marmalade is my favourite and will ‘POP’ by the Hostas. I also like the Fire Chief variety which is bright red, or ‘Berry Smoothie’ which is a lovely berry colour.

I will also try to get the 3 x Festuca Intense Blue – Blue Grass Plants, if they are still on offer?

I will probably add more hostas, ferns, heucheras and grasses in that area, as and when I can, so that it creates a kind of jungle/tropical area, then moving towards the orchard and Acers, along with the round stones that create a path from the kitchen area to the Zen area.

The Zen area includes a metal bench sat next to the pond. It is lovely to sit there listening to the birds, the fountain and the wind blowing softly through the bushes.

This area will have the iris’s planted nearby, providing colour in the spring, along with the Dwarf Flowering Fuji Cherry Tree (Prunus incisa ‘Kojo-No-Mai’) and the Forsythia Mikador.
