May 2024

Since March, I have sown, planted out and bought several garden accessories. Read More…

March 2024

A year has gone by and I didn’t get to do much in the garden, just keeping it relatively tidy. During the winter, I had a good time in buying some lovely house plants, unfortunately, some died but the ones I still have are growing well.

I have also started to grow food hydroponically, which is fun.

However, I am also going to grow food and herbs and plants in my garden and have started to grow some seeds, using my progators and a heating mat. and when they germinate I will use my grow lights to get things moving, and into their final places in the garden. See my seed sowing 2024 page

May 2023

Today, (May 4th) I am feeling pretty good and contemplating going in the garden to clear the veg trugs ready for planting. Home Haemodialysis is going fairy well, which in turn, is giving me a bit more time and energy to do things.

January 2023

A new year and a new growing season. The seeds that I hope to grow are listed on my seed sowing 2023 page.

I have also updated the About page and I have posted a January Update on the Gardening Challenges page and the Diary page has it’s first entry for 2023.

If there is a hosepipe ban I will be frugal with water but continue to ensure my plants will be watered in a way that I can sustain due to my health. My plan for 2023 is to continue to grown vegetables, herbs and flowers in my small garden. It will keep my mind balanced and will also feed our bellies with delicious fresh produce which is good for both of us, even if it isn’t large harvests.

There is a lot of work to do and I’m not sure if I will manage it all, even if I get help, but the challenge is to have a go and see what I can achieve within the parameters of home haemodialysis and having sufficient energy to carry out jobs. i will give it my best … watch this space 🙂

November 2022

Today is 25th November and I have just potted up some spring bulbs in a trough. The hosepipe ban finished a couple of weeks ago and the weather is getting colder now. Everything was going OK until the ban came into force and I couldn’t sustain watering the garden but not using a hosepipe, although it turns out I could have done so due to my health!

This season, I got Lewis to plant out my Hostas and to replant my Rhubarb. my plan for 2023 is to continue to grown vegetables and flowers in my small garden.

March 2022

Today is 13 March and I have sown 3 types of seeds: Tomatoes, Peppers and Marigolds. I am still continue to wear a mask despite the governments’ insistence that we don’t need to anymore, which is in conflict with the increase of Covid admissions to hospitals!

On the patio area I have a lovely metal 2 person bench which complements the garden arch.

I had some failures last season, including the death of the Cypress trees. However, one success was the Jasmine which Lewis scalped, it grew back beautifully.

I am growing more Hostas, Heucheras and Blue ornamental grasses for the right hand side of the garden.

My plan this year is to grow more flowers and vegetables…Lewis still has plenty of work to do in the garden, painting the fence, creating shelving for the greenhouse, fixing the water butt. Oh and not forgetting cutting the hedges and the grass.

February 2021

It’s 9th Feb and as per last year, I have seeds ready to go, and my list continues to be longer than my arm. However, I am growing in a pandemic which means that I should be really careful as I am shielding due to my vulnerable status – wear a mask (if needed), wash hands, and keep my distance, save lives, save the NHS, and have my second jab by the end of May 21. (Update: I had my second jab in April)

Last year, we had some hard landscaping done, so we now have an patio area, with a friendly dragon guarding the space. We also moved the Rhododendron and the Cherry tree to make a kind of Japanese zen area together with the fruit tree orchard.

The path continues up the garden to where the veg trugs are, and hopefully, this may be extended.

I had a garden arch for christmas which needs to be installed once lockdown 3 has lifted. This will also mean that we can have our hedge finally cropped. Lewis has a new job so he doesn’t have as much time to spare.

I have also bought 2 new planters filled with pansies, 2 new Jasmine Officianales (summer flowering – white flowers) to go either side of the arch in blue pots and also a Jasimine Nudiflorum (winter flowering – yellow flowers) to be planted in the old jasmine container.

For the end of the garden, either side of the gate I have bought 2 Cypress trees with blue pots.

In reserve, I have 5 more Hostas and 2 Heucheras and 2 Blue ornamental grasses, but I am not sure that they are still alive and kicking, we will wait and see and plant them in the spring when it is warmer. Today, the soil is covered with a slight dusting of snow and temperatures have been chilly to say the least recently.

My plans, this year include hanging baskets, more flowers and growing vegetables, I have plenty of compost to begin and I am itching to get started using my heated propagator again for peppers, chillies and tomatoes.

February 2020

It’s 18th Feb and I already have seeds to start in my new propagator that I got for Christmas.

In fact I have a list of seeds longer than my arm to grow this season and I am itching to get started.

As I now have 2 veg trugs, I can grow more this year, and I will have use of 4 dog baths to grow sweet potatoes, flowers and whatever else I want to grow.

Lewis still has plenty of work to do in the garden, situating the 2 Darleks onto paving slabs, painting the fence, creating shelving for the greenhouse, fixing the water butt. Oh and not forgetting cutting the hedges and the grass.

We would also like the garden path to be made easier to walk on and to have a slope or extra wide step to come into the garden from the kitchen.

It’s 20 August 2019, I have grown some vegetables and more flowers this year. I have a new lawn and have planned what to grow from September on wards. The veg trug has been a great way to grow veg and companion plants, resulting in the purchase of a second veg trug.

We had to buy a lawn mower and a storage space to put it in when not in use. We have miles of water pipe to water the whole garden as well as the garden in the front of the house. We bought new containers to grown Geraniums and blue Lobelia, Nasturtians, Candy Tuft, Corn Flower and Californian Poppies.

At times the summer has been in the 30s and the Acer suffered a little due to the relentless heat. New leaves have grown and it is a lovely burgundy colour at the moment. I have a new Rhubarb plant which does not go dormant in the summer,, so I look forward to plenty of growth from it.

The Musa Bajoo has been blown about a bit due to a strange phenomenon of Autumnal winds in mid-summer, but it continues to grow new leaves.

Lewis still has plenty of work to do in the garden, clearing the bottom, moving the 2 Darleks nearer to the fence and onto paving slabs, creating a seat for John and I, painting the fence, clearing the greenhouse and cleaning the panels, fixing the water butt. Oh and not forgetting cutting the hedges and the grass.

It’s 26 February 2019 and the start of another gardening year.

I feel that 2019 is going to be the best year I will ever have in Parsley’s Garden.

During the Autumn of 2018, the back garden was stripped of all the rubbish and unnecessary items and has the look and feel of a brand new garden.

All there is – is soil and 4 troughs and a new large grow trug with which is H 80 x W 183 x D 76 cm, and having a Greenhouse Frame + Cover.

There are various sizes of pots – all ready to be filled with flower and vegetable seeds and a set of garden ready flower plants – Geranium ‘Best Red’ F1 Hybrid, Lobelia ‘Monsoon’, Coreopsis ‘Golden Joy’  and Delphinium ‘Magic Fountains Mixed’ due to arrive before the end of May.

I will also be receiving a few plug-plants from T & M – Busy Lizzie ‘Imara’ before the end of March.
