Signs of Germination and Growth

Had a walk out into the garden before the rains come down again and I was struck by how much germination and growth had been accomplished.

The following seeds appear to have grown into small seedlings: Marigold, Nasturtium, Cornflower and Californian Poppy, Viola and Candytuft.

The Sweet peas and Beans have not shown signs of germination just yet, but give them time and some warm sun (please!)

Lewis had thrown some more lawn seed on to the bare patches, and they seem to have taken, as I can see growth.

There may be some germination with the lettuce seeds and hopefully the wild rocket seeds soon, probably being delayed by the cooler, wetter weather.

I have yet to sow the Cabbage, Cauliflower and Autumn King Carrot seeds, this might happen either Friday or Saturday when it will (may) be a little warmer.

Other than that, I have to re-pot the peppers into bigger pots and leave them in the kitchen where they seem to be thriving.

I also need to check when I can harvest the potatoes, I have a feeling that it will be soon as the plants have started to flower and the stems have flattened due to their sheer weight. (They can be harvested 16 weeks after planting, so that works out at Friday, 5 July 2019)

Once they are harvested, I will sow some Cabbage/Cauliflower in their place with some fresh compost in which to sow them in (I have 1 bag of compost left, after filling 3 black pots ready for the Cosmos seeds and the Autumn King Carrot seeds.

The Red Baron onions should be OK to harvest from Monday, 12 August 2019

I may also sow some more wild rocket in one of the pots too. I have a large brown pot still in reserve, which could perhaps grow something nice in – either veg seed or flower seed, depending on what I have left and what is, more importantly, suitable for the container.

The blue Lobelia plants in the pots are looking great with the green of the lawn as a backdrop, and nestled within the leaves of the geranium, I am hoping that they will flower at some point so that I can see the red flowers nest to the blue ones, I am so glad that I bought them.

As for the Delphiums and Coreopsis, none have flowered as yet, but they seem to have settled in well in the dog trough.

One worry that I have are the Corgettes; they seemed to have stagnated in their growth, probably due to the weather, which is why it would be good to see the sun again for more than a day or two.

Finally, the Jasmine has begun to flower 🙂
