Weeding
Yesterday was really hot, so stayed in all day. Then, in the evening, we did some watering of the garden and the containers.
The beetroot and spinach didn’t look very well, so today I removed the largest spinach plant because its leaves looked like they had burned in the sun.
Some of the larger beetroots looked the same but I cannot find a definitive answer.
Do I ignore them and hope they will be OK or do I remove them and have a better look to see if it has an aphid issue and leave the smaller ones to grow?
The answer is I don’t know. 🙁
I think that I will take a photo and ask on a gardening forum to help identify the problem.
Apparently, beetroot can be harvested at 6 weeks, it is now 9 weeks, so I will harvest them and see what they are like.
The carrots can be harvested at 10 weeks, so I can harvest them from 8 July. I can also start harvesting the peas and of course the potatoes – so that will make a lovely meal (if I have enough).
I have weeded around the courgettes, strawberries and the lavender. One of which needs a top up of compost – I will try to do it this week.
The marigolds are growing well so I may separate 1 or 2 to add to the veg trug near the tomatoes.
The sweet peas have germinated and have grown about 3-4 inches in height. I am looking forward to them flowering. Unfortunately, not all of them have germinated, but that is OK.
