red pepper

Mid September

The heat has finally abated and we now have the tail end of a hurricane battering our shores, windy and wet.

Bertha the Musa Bajoo has been blown about and all her newly grown leaves are ripped to shreds.

The cabbage and cauliflower plants have not fared well as there have been a lot of cabbage white butterflies about, and despite defensive measures, they have won more battles than me!

We will see what we can do next season to get rid of the problem.

The best thing that has happened in the last few days is that I have noticed at least 2 yellow peppers growing and 2 flowers on the red pepper plants.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for them to grow well into tasty peppers.

The flowers are starting to die back and I really need to cultivate the Geraniums and tidy up the buckets with dying plants.

I also need to find the Acer Palmatum and make sure that it is positioned in a suitable place for the winter.

The other thing that has been good is the grass, which is cut regularly by Lewis.

He still has the right side of the garden to deal with, getting rid of rubbish in the Abbey Grab bag, and if there is a nice day soon, to paint the fence and garden gate.

All in all it has been quite a good growing season and I hope that the next will be just as good or even better.

I will need to be more organised with my plans, so that I know what to sow and when, making decisions with a bit more reasoning and not using my gut.

I will get Lewis to put the other cover and frame on the 1st veg trug so that it can be up and running for spring.

The potatoes in spud bin 1 & 2 are going great guns, lots of leaves and hopefully lots of spuds growing.
