Gloomy weather
The weather over the last month has been gloomy, with grey skies but warm temperatures.
I managed to get a new Red Raspberry patio plant and a couple of days ago the gold patio raspberry arrived, so I need to get it planted out as soon as possible and give it a drink. (i planted it next to the red patio raspberry)
The peas that are left are still growing (hopefully) The beans have lovely white flowers on them but have not grown any beans, despite the leaning tower of beans! (took a more detailed look and there are beans growing.)
I have also harvested the spring onions and a few of the carrots, though I have left the majority of them to grow some more before I harvest them later.
Yum! Beans and carrots from the garden – lovely, jubily 🙂
The sweet potatoes have been planted in veg trug 2, and lettuces are growing steadily in veg trug 1 – along with the remaining Geraniums which need to be planted out or at least in bigger pots.
I have planted 6 of the Geraniums and will need to pot the rest out when I am back in the garden again.
I also want to plant out my one remaining Hosta, near to the Fire and Ice Hosta, and maybe buy a small collection of Hostas, and plant them underneath the hedge on the right hand side. I would also like to get a couple of Heuchera plants (lime and marmalade) or Heuchera Frilly (£5.99) and Festuca glauca Blue Fescue x5 plants from Gardening Express (£14.99)
The Cosmos doesn’t seem to want to grow any flowers, however the foliage is very pretty, fine leaves.
One of the jobs that I need to do is to get rid of the weeds that have grown on the right hand side of the garden near the Orchard, they are a blight on the landscape! 🙂 (Not anymore, I got rid of the majority of them).
I noticed that we have some strawberries growing, so I will need to find the environmental mesh to protect them from the birds)
Now, that I have cleared the weeds, I have found 2 tomato plants growing, and one of them needs some cane support, which I will do when I am back in the garden
I have ordered some red onions and brown ones (Shakespeare & Red Winter) to grow in the veg trug 1, as soon as I have kicked out the lettuces.
For autumn planting I have ordered 25 Iris Reticulata, so they will brighten up the garden for spring. I have also bought from Hope Plants 3x 5L pots of Geranium ‘Calliope Pretty Little Pink Splash’
At the weekend or when I get a few moments spare I will sow some cabbage Durham and some Kale seed (in used pea container) and winter – Arctic Lettuce seeds, so that we can supplementary foodstuffs in the winter. I think it might be a bit late to sow some Early Nantes carrots but according to the www I can grow them in August, so lucky me, I have the seeds.
i have also forgotten that I have ordered some FREE herb plugs x 12 too from You Garden, (two each of mint, thyme, sage, rosemary, parsley, and chive). together with a Blackberry ‘Patio Black’ 9cm pot
