Saturday Afternoon 24 April

Idris the dragon

Another lovely day, blue skies and sunshine but a few cool breezes as well.

Idris, the dragon is doing a great job guarding the garden 🙂

I started off with filling the green grow bags with peatless compost, then I filled one of the new blue pots, ready for planting out the 12 mega Petunia Bolero plants.

Presently, I have sited the Petunias next to the Rosemary, and when the Geraniums are delivered, I might just put them in my other new blue pot, on the other side of the Rosemary.

Then, I brought the wildlife pond out and filled it with water and I assembled the solar fountain and placed it in the pond.

Straight away it began to work making a lovely trickling water sound.

I hope that the birds will use it to drink from.

It definitely needs a dwarf water lily too, but that will be for next month’s buying plan.

Before that though, I am in desperate need of some more more compost, I have about just enough for the strawberries, and that is it.

I need to fill up the 8 section black bag for the salad stuff – I have about 2 sections almost filled, and I calculate that I will need at least 8 x 50L bags of compost, so that I can sow 4 x lots of salad seed, beetroot seeds and wild rocket seeds.

In the brown container that has a tripod and string will be for the cucumber, the other large container will be for the cougette plant and will need a tripod and string to grow upwards.

There are 2 green dog troughs still to be weeded and made ready for the sweet potatoes coming in mid-May. That then leaves the other veg trug to be planted with Home Guard spuds.

There is a brown container by the hedge on the left hand side near the wall, this could be de-weeded and got ready for the French dwarf beans to grow in, and maybe make a tripod for them too.

I can then begin to grow some cabbage and cauliflower in some pots until I have a free container for them all.

Veg trug one could have flowers sown: nasturtiums, marigolds (and in pots to be near the tomato plants, (hopefully from Brenda) and Busy Lizzies too. then that will be it for this season as I will not have any more pots/room to put anything else 🙁
