Unfortunately, due to a number of factors, I am unable to get out into my garden at the moment and have been missing caring for plants.
So, I started to collect houseplants instead!
Beginning with a Maranta Leuconeura which my daughter had bought me.
Then I got a Spathiphyllum or Peace Lily and a Ficus Elastica or Rubber Plant.
Following on from this I had to divide my Sanseveiria, otherwise known as a Snake Plant or Mother-in-Laws Tongue into 4 new plants, using soil especially for this type of plant.
At the same time of purchase (a few christmases ago), I also got a Yucca (Elephantipes) plant and a Monstera Deliciosa or Swiss Cheese Plant.
The next few of plants that I have bought are a Calathea Eldergrass and a Chlorophytum Variegatum or Spider plant, and from a lucky dip I was sent a Diffenbachia ‘Compacta’ along with Red and White Fittonia plants otherwise known as nerve plants.
Then, I found out that Gardening Express were selling some “Baby Plants”, so, I bought 4 of them:
Baby Birds Nest Snake Plant or Sansevieria Golden Hahnii,
Baby Sword Fern Plant or Nephrolepis Exaltata Fluffy Ruffle,
Baby Window Leaf Monstera Plant otherwise known as Monstera Obliqua and a Baby Parlor Plant or Chamaedorea Elegans.
I love these baby plants and so I have added to my baby plant collection (or Jungle as my other half says)!
The next 6 plants that I have bought are:
Baby Heart Leaf Philodendron – Philodendron Scandens, Baby Asparagus Fern Plant – Asparagus Plumosu,
Baby Peacock Plant – Peperomia Piccolo Banda,
Baby Arabian Coffee Plant – Coffea Arabica,
Baby Pony Tail Palm Plant – Beaucarnea Recurvata (a suculent!),
and a Baby Dumb Cane Plant – Diffenbachia Maculata Amy.
Then the last plants that I bought were:
Baby Banana Plant – Musa Acuminata A.K.A. Dwarf Cavendish, and Baby Zebra Plant – Calathea Freddie (both sit) on my shelf next to my monitor 🙂
Finally, I bought a Dicksonia Antarctica, a plant that I have always wanted since the first time I saw them.
So, it is quite a mini jungle after all.
PS Christmas is coming and I might get a (rooted cutting) of Zamioculcas zamiifolia – ZZ plant, Zanzibar gem otherwise known as a Fern Arum or maybe a Coleus plant, (otherwise known as Painted Nettle Plant Coleus Main Street Abbey Road), like the ones my mum used to grow.
