September
It has certainly turned autumnal!
Tree leaves are turning brown, the temperature is now about 19c in the daytime with cloudy skies, and its time to have a tidy up.
I have just planted some more cabbage and cauliflower plugs – the cauliflower, this time, is All Year Round and the cabbage is another 6 of Offenham Compacta.
I need to empty some of the pots – Poppies, Marigolds and Cornflowers and probably the Nasturtiums and Candy Tuft which has been a delight to grow over the summer – I wasn’t going to bother either! But I’m glad I did, and I will certainly grow it again in 2020.
I also need to get some 9cm pots for the Geranium cuttings so that I can grow them on for the summer.
The strawberries will need to have some straw around them, as do the potatoes, and I must cultivate any strawberry runners too.
I will need to get something to protect the Musa Bajoo so that it will survive the coming winter.
In veg trug 1, the wild rocket has begun flowering – delicate yellow flowers. The Marigolds have flowered beautifully, but the lettuce and radish have been munched by butterflies. Next year, the trug will have its cover frame on as veg trug 2 will have on Friday when Lewis comes over again.
I must get the Abbey grab bag again to clear away some stuff from the bottom of the garden and from the compost bins. This will allow room for the bins to be set on paving slabs and begin again, so that by next spring it should have some lovely compost to put on the garden.
